Tamara Pearson.
"My body is a canvas that I will continue to create honest expression on, from the ground up through the soles of my feet"
Tamara is an Indigenous person from the eastern area of Cape York Peninsula. Her language group is Kuku Yalanji on her paternal grandmother’s side and Bagarrmuguwarra on her paternal grandfather’s side. Tamara performed Traditional Dance as part of my cultural heritage, and contemporary styles using inherent skills in various performances and public shows from adolescence to senior secondary school years. In latter years she worked and performed at corporate functions and schools.
One of her earlier achievements as a teenager was to choreograph for the Peace Lutheran College (Private Secondary) and the Trinity Bay State High Schools’ End of Year Performances.
She completed her Certificate 111 and IV in Indigenous Dance and Knowledge at the Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE. When she graduated from that program, Tamara moved to Sydney to further her studies at the National Aboriginal Indigenous Dance Association (NAISDA) and in her final year NAISDA nominated and awarded Tamara the Student of the Year in 2008.
After 5 years in Sydney it was time to return to my homelands with the knowledge and experience she had gained to pursue her dreams and goals to mentor, create, perform and inspire young Indigenous children.
She is an active person in the Indigenous dance circles in regional centres such as Cairns and State Capitals such as Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. She dance with the Traditional Owners for the Cairns Region- Carl Fourmile and Dance Troupe- at events held at the Cultural Precinct in Cairns and Theatre Restaurants.
