Women’s Health Week will be celebrated on Thursday Island and the Northern Peninsula Area with a host of activities and information sessions from 5-9 September. Mark Hogan talks with Louise Foley from the Bamaga Hospital about what is planned for the NPA.
“At Seisia, the health service will be showcasing local women’s arts and crafts and provide a safe space where women can yarn with health professionals and ask questions regarding their health care. “Cards will be provided to participants to write their questions on if they feel uncomfortable to speak out their concern or query. “The cards will be placed in a box and questions will be read out, without identification, thereby allowing their query to be addressed with confidentiality.’’
“The aim of the week is to raise awareness of the need for women to prioritise their health and well-being so they can be there to support their families.’’
